Trump's fascist and pro-Hitler rhetoric should not be sanewashed

It just feels wrong that we have a candidate representing one of the two major US parties (in this case the GOP) regularly uses fascist rhetoric at public events and has eyewitnesses who can attest that Trump has praised Adolf Hitler. Yes, that Adolf Hitler. You know, the one that many of our ancestors went to war roughly eight decades ago to defeat (along with other fascist powers aligned with the Nazis). It not only feels wrong but it is wrong.

So where is the media coverage? It's there, kinda sorta. But the reaction among the media pundits seems to be along the lines of "meh." So we're left with late night talk show hosts to fill the void. Thankfully they do the hard work of reporting the facts and showing how tremendously fucked up the situation really is. It's no game. This is real life and folks need to wake up pronto.

Here's Seth Meyers working tirelessly again to wake up a nation sleepwalking its way to fascism:

Are you tired of the dumpster fire that is Donald Trump and MAGA? Are you exhausted by needless culture wars when we have bigger fish to fry (such as climate change and a world on the verge of war)? I know I am. To put it another way, I am simply fed up. Wake up folks. Those who would commit the worst atrocities never rest. Neither should we. Shine as much daylight as possible on Trump's unhinged rhetoric as possible. Make it clear that his plan is fascism, pure and simple. And make it plain as day that in an America ruled with an iron fist by Trump, there will be no safe havens. Ask refugees from brutal dictatorships about their experience. I have done that and learned a lot in the process. Trust me when I say this: you would not want to live through what they have lived through. Nor should anyone live through dictatorship. Right now, we still have a choice. I hope enough of us make the right choice. I may rely on comedians quite often to tell a story, but this is no laughing matter. Seth Meyers gets it. Do you?
